IT SOUNDS STRANGE but....

Did you know that helping your employees sleep better may be one the best things you can do for your business?

Access Economics estimate that sleep disorders cost Australia up to $7.1 billion per year.  How much of this is your organisation paying?

There are several key reasons that business pay heavily for the sleep problems of their staff:

  • Up to 90% of the Australian population experience sleep problems at some stage in their life
  • Fatigue impairs judgement.  Even 1 - 2 hours less sleep (or poor quality sleep) can cause marked reduction to performance. This may cost you sales, reduce productivity or have a flow-on negative effect on other team members.
  • Lack of sleep can impair ability to perform in a similar way to alcohol use.  Just 24 hours with no sleep equates approximately to a Blood Alcohol Reading of 0.1% - double the legal driving limit.  ($1.1 billion of costs per year are attributed to sleep related work-place accidents alone.)
  • Sleep problems effects the immune system, mood, confidence, concentration, memory, creativity and ability to think quickly.  These all have significant effects on productivity
  • Outside of the aviation industry, and a few other sectors, sleep problems typically do not recieve sufficient attention in the workplace.

The good news is that this can be addressed easily.  Most sleep problems can be addressed easily once people are provided the right information, strategies and assistance.  Like anything important prevention is always better than cure.

Can we help?

The Get More Sleep Program is periodically run in cities all over Australia.  By encouraging any staff who would like to improve their sleep to attend the program (which only takes four hours), you can significantly improve performance and reduce the risks of workplace accidents and sick leave.

The Get More Sleep Program can also be run specifically for your organisation, or you can arrange for a Get More Sleep Psychologist  to attend your workplace to provide education and awareness raising sessions.

I used to hate going to my doctor and asking for more sleeping medications.  She didn't like giving them to me and I always felt embarrassed about having to ask.  I just couldn't sleep without them.  I haven't taken a single sleeping tablet for 4 months now.
